Swim Meet 2025 Volunteer Jobs
Northbrook has a rich tradition of volunteer involvement, and it is our volunteers who make our pool so special. When your family signs up to be a part of the Northbrook swim and/or dive teams, you are also *required* to complete *THREE* volunteer shifts. We can't run our TEAMS without you!
Not sure what these jobs entail? See the descriptions below.
Announcer: Calls swimmers for each event; announces scores, records, upcoming events. Full meet time requirement.
Clerk of Course: Organizes swimmers behind the starting blocks in the right lanes and heats. Must attend the volunteer briefing by the TSA reps before the meet. Full meet time requirement, but you alternate boy/girl events with a partner.
Kid Pusher: Keeps track of younger swimmers and moves them to the starting blocks in the right order in time for their events. For relays, ensures swimmers are at their correct places at either end of pool. Full meet time requirement (except 6 and under swimmers who are finished after breaststroke).
Lane Timer: Records official times for swimmers in their lane (regardless of which team a swimmer belongs to). Each lane will have up to two volunteers. First half timers must attend the volunteer briefing by the TSA reps before the meet and will work through the conclusion of the back stroke event. Second half timers need to be in place and ready to take over from first half timers at the beginning of the breast stroke event.
Meet Day Breakfast Volunteer: Purchases breakfast items for swimmers to enjoy after morning practice on the day of our swim meets. Each volunteer needs to purchase enough of their food item to feed at least 50-60 kids. All volunteers must be at the pool from 9:30 - 11:30am on meet day to setup, serve and cleanup after breakfast. Signup is limited to one breakfast per family, per season.
Parking Lot Attendant: Handles traffic flow and parking on meet day. Must arrive at Northbrook no later than 4pm. Our lot is reserved for visitors and others with a special need to park in the lot. The Parking Lot Attendant monitors the drop off zone for Northbrook families and ensures as many spots as possible are available for the visiting team. There is a flag, a safety vest, and cones in the club house for use by the attendant.
Order of Finish Judge: Works collaboratively with the OOF Judge from the opposing team to determine order of finish for all swimmers in the main/scoring heat. Must attend the volunteer briefing by the TSA reps before the meet. Full meet time requirement, but you are only “on” for main events.
Runner: At the end of each main/scoring heat, picks up Order of Finish records from the OOF Judges, and DQ slips from the Stroke & Turn Official and the Starter and delivers them to the Meet Administrator. Full meet time requirement.
Meet Administrator/Scorekeeper Assistant: Sits at scorer's table and assists NBK Swim Meet Administrator as needed. Experience with Swimtopia/Meet Maestro is helpful, but not required (we'll train you). Full meet time requirement, but you sit in the shade!
Jobs Requiring TSA Training:
Meet Administrator/Scorekeeper: Responsible for entering meet information into Meet Maestro (MM), including disqualifications and deck changes. Ensures each heat is recorded in MM and ensures electronic timing/scoring systems are functioning correctly.
Stroke and Turn Official: Verifies that main event heat athletes in specific lanes are swimming each stroke in accordance with TSA rules. Completes DQ slip for disqualified swimmers.
